Mark Hornberger, Manager Paint Engineering and Maintenance – Interior/Exterior Division
Toyoda Gosei has seen improvements to our painting and coating lines after installing Cool Clean’s Omega™ FLEX CO2 spray cleaning equipment. The solution has greatly reduced our labor costs and we have seen significant (40%) scrap reductions to the parts. We currently have 4 locations featuring the CO2 spray cleaning solutions by Cool Clean and plan to implement more in the future to keep up with the growing demand of automotive parts. Before CO2 cleaning we used manual wiping procedures that were inconsistent leaving poor paint finishes. CO2 cleaning works great on our parts and our end users are happy with the finished product. Cool Clean, with our integration partner Sprimag, made automating the CO2 cleaning process simple, and their team of experienced engineers helped install the solutions to run efficiently and with reduced energy costs. They have been very responsive to any issues that would arise. We highly recommend the expertise and knowledge of Cool Clean’s team and look forward to continuing to work together in the future.

We modified one of our paint booths in 2018 to incorporate the CO2 cleaning. We also built a new booth that started production in 2019 and we implemented the CO2 cleaning at start of production. And lastly, we just purchased a third system that we will be installing end of 2019 on an older booth we have. The primary goal we had in mind when starting the CO2 cleaning process was to reduce labor cost since we can reduce the amount of manual prep on the parts. Any defect reduction would just be added bonus. With that being said, we have had success with the CO2 cleaning. Our data from the first booth that we installed CO2 showed percentage scrap reduction from 3.3% to 2%, meaning a 65% scrap reduction. If you have any other questions or need any other information, I’d be happy to help.

We were looking for some method to remove an unknown contamination from the surface of a ceramic part used in the Semiconductor industry. Solvents such as IPA or Methanol didn’t help. We found CO2 Cleaning as an interesting novel idea. After an initial demo showing no damage to our part, we proceeded to a follow up demo which showed positive results for cleaning performance. We proceeded to purchase the equipment to further our cleaning process. After a few months of usage, we found we could benefit from some upgrades involving the AMP and LC-2000, so that we can see improved cleaning results.
